Flu vaccine This annual shot is essential for all high-risk adults but is a good idea for all adults. It is highly protective against the influenza virus, safe and relatively inexpensive.

Tetanus Every adult should receive this booster every 10 years. This protects against tetanus or "lock jaw" a terrible condition almost never seen in the US due to vaccinations.

Measles, Mumps,Rubella (MMR) Any adults born after 1957 needs an MMR. Most adults born prior to that time were exposed to the virus.

Pneumonia Pneumococcal vaccine can prevent one major cuase of pneumonia. This is especially important for elderly and those with lung disease or diabetes.

Hepatitis A and B This vaccine can prevent liver infection. They are typically given to travellers to third world countries where these infections are common.

Shingles Meant primarily for the elderly, this vaccine prevents a burning skin infection caused by the virus that causes chicken pox.

Human Papillomavirus (HPV) A brand new vaccine, this can prevent cervical cancer in sexually active women.

Meningitis This vaccine helps to prevent a serious neurological disease and is mainly for students entering college.
